Hedersleben, Harz

Hedersleben is a municipality in the district of Harz, in Saxony- Anhalt. It belongs to the municipality Vorharz, which has its administrative headquarters in ways of life.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the river Selke just before the confluence with the Bode. To the east of the municipality, which is used mainly agricultural otherwise, are the western foothills of the projected nature of woodlands Hakel.

History

The place was first mentioned in 978 in a document of Otto II.

Religion

The Cistercian Abbey of St. Gertrud ( patrocinium: Gertrude of Nivelles ) was built in 1253, 1262 were nuns from the monastery Helfta added. The older Marienkirche was used after the Reformation as a simultaneous church. 1713 has been built on the site of the monastery, a Protestant parish church, while the Catholic church inaugurated a new Baroque church in 1717. The Romanesque church tower survived until today, the original church was integrated into the new Roman Catholic Church. 1810, the monastery was closed after the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss by the Westphalian government. Finally, could the Catholic parish in 1841 to be rebuilt, and in 1845 began the reconstruction of the now partially disused and dilapidated church. In 1846 it was inaugurated, it still exists today as St. Gertrude's Church. 2003, a memorial stone was erected for the 750th anniversary of the founding of the monastery. 2005, a comprehensive renovation of the St. Gertrude's Church was completed.

The Catholic Community of St. Gertrud, is today one of the community of the Sacred Heart in the valley and the town of St. Mathilde in Quedlinburg to the parish of St. Mathilde based in Quedlinburg.

The evangelical church is now part of the parish of Bode - Selke - Aue based in Hausneindorf and church district of Halberstadt.

Culture and sights

Structures

The former monastery of St. Gertrudis was secularized and acquired in 1811 by the bailiff and estate owners Johann Matthias Heyne and remained there until expropriation in 1945 in the course of the land reform in the hands of his descendants, Heyer & Co. were also the founders of the company Heyne, who last, next to the still structurally in some sections Heder Haderslev sugar factory, 4500 ha of arable land cultivated. At the local cemetery graves are for seven unknown concentration camp prisoners who were on a death march from KZ Long -Zwieberge, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp, murdered and buried in April 1945.

Traffic

Hedersleben by three bus lines (2, 3, and 217) of the Harz transport companies approached. There are connections to and from Quedlinburg, Heteborn, Gatersleben and Halberstadt. Education

In Hedersleben there was in GDR times, a primary school and secondary school in the same building complex. The Sigmund Jähn high school was later closed due to lack of pupils.
