Heerde

( Listen? / I ) herd is a municipality of the province of Gelderland on the northeast edge of the Veluwe.

Places

The municipality consists of the villages:

  • Flock (about 11,200 inhabitants; seat of the municipal administration)
  • Wapenveld (about 6,200 inhabitants, 4 km north from Heerde )
  • Veessen (700 inhabitants, 5 km to the east of the herd, the dike of the river IJssel )
  • Vorchten (200 inh; 3 km N. of Veessen; . Ferry to Wijhe )

Location and economic

Herd is located at Rijksweg 50, about 25 km north of Apeldoorn and 15 km south of Zwolle, where is the nearest railway station. But there are good bus connections to Apeldoorn and Zwolle. Heerde and Wapenveld lie on a canal, which was dug in the 19th century. The shipping route ( which was set in 1960 ) led to the settlement of some factories. The most important of which still exist now that produce paints, paper, biscuit, and ecological, eco- friendly detergents. The community is surrounded by the forests of the Veluwe and therefore attracts many tourists.

History

All resorts in the community developed since about the 12th century peasant villages. Between 1407 and 1578 there was a brothers house Hulsbergen, a small monastery. Meanwhile monks did much to make reclaimed by the marshy land between the Veluwe and the IJssel. Because of the presence of clear stream water predates 1850 paper mills. Through flock and Wapenveld was until 1950 a railway ( Apeldoorn - Zwolle ).
