Hegumen

The Hegumen (also Igumen or Hegumen ) is the abbot in the monastery of the Orthodox churches. The term is derived from ancient Greek hēgoúmenos ( ἡγούμενος ), "leader", "ladder " her. In Bulgarian, Macedonian, Russian and Ukrainian in the Hegumen is transcribed as Igumen, in Romanian as Egumen, Georgian as Iğumeni, and in Serbian as Iguman.

The female form would Hegumania (corresponding transkr. Than Igumenija, Igumanija etc.).
