History Map of the secret Riede and its source and tributaries

The secret Riede at the town hall of the velvet municipality Isenbuttel

The secret Riede is an approximately 20 kilometer long creek at the Pape Teicher plateau with a 80 km ² large catchment area west of the city of Wolfsburg and southeast of the city Gifhorn. The creek empties into the Aller Canal and part of the river system of the Aller.

Topography

The creek is formed near the Good Martin constable. At the southeastern edge of the Wasbüttel Horenriede from the southwest will be added. The secret Riede then flows about a kilometer to the north between the eastern outskirts Wasbüttels and the Elbe Lateral Canal. In its upper reaches the river is also two lagoons as receiving water. South of the canal bridge between the L292 and Calberlah Isenbuttel opens the Edesbütteler Riede in the secret vineyard. The creek veers around to the northwest and flows north to Isenbuttel over towards the town of Gifhorn. In Isenbuttel opens with the Gravenhorster Riede another stream in the secret vineyard. In the southern district of Gifhorn angle the secret Riede finally discharges into the Aller Canal. Before building the Allerkanals to 1860 the stream was even further to the former mouth of the Aller near Brennecke Brück ( tired ). This part of the former watercourse was built in the 1860s during the construction of the canal in this. Remnants of the old stream course also exist in the lower reaches of the Rötgesbütteler Riede and full büttel Riede. Here they each take on these streams and pass them in the Allerkanal. However, there is no more connection to the present mill Riede.

Tributaries

Edesbütteler Riede

The Edesbütteler Riede is a right tributary of the secret vineyard. The creek is formed east of Wettmershagen by the confluence of several small streams and drainage ditches. Sources of these streams are at Grassel, Small Brunsrode and Essenrode. From Wettmershagen the creek flows in a westerly direction and dükert between Edesbüttel and Calberlah succession to the Mittelland Canal and twice the Elbe Lateral Canal. Then the Edesbütteler Riede opens into the secret Riede

Risch mill Riede

The Risch mill Riede, also called Gravenhorster Riede, is a left tributary of the secret vineyard with a catchment area of 15.69 km ². The creek originates in a field north-east of the village My and flows in a northeasterly direction between Ohnhorst and Gravenhorst through towards Isebüttel. Directly on Isenbütteler Hall opens the Risch mill Riede in the secret vineyard.

The Risch mill Riede was, in particular, artificially deepened in the upper reaches and straightened in their course. During the stream flows in its upper reaches through fields and green spaces, he winds up in its lower reaches shortly before Isenbuttel by a small deciduous forest. The diversity of the stream is very low. This is partly because the now closed sugar factory in my decades derived their waste water in this stream.

Flood protection

Studies at the Technical University of Braunschweig have shown that the area is particularly vulnerable at about 24 hours of continuous rain. Finally, it came in July 2002, January 2003 and August 2007 floods in the past on the secret Riede and its tributaries villages. In response to the flood of 2002 it was decided to undertake measures such as the creation of additional flood plains as part of a water development plan.

Flora and Fauna

The secret Riede is a largely developed and begradigtes waters. The creek runs mostly through green spaces and is only a few areas shaded by trees. The underflow was on the left side planted with alders. Their root system has now reached the river bed. The river bottom is, as usual, in the Lüneburg Heath, of sand and fine gravel.

Floating aquatic organisms are largely absent from the secret Riede and your tributary streams. Nevertheless, there are ten species that are performed on the Red List of Lower Saxony:

  • Three different types of caddisflies
  • Two different types of long- button water-beetles
  • As a subset of bladder snails
  • A subspecies of the plate screw
  • The Banded Demoiselle
  • The congregation Clubtail
  • Blue Federlibelle

Water quality

The Lower Saxony Water Quality Report 2004 assesses the chemical water stress on the bones Riede almost the entire course as moderately polluted ( Class II ). The latest water quality map of NLWKN however, shows a grade II -III ( critically polluted ).
