Heidi Westphal

Heidi Westphal ( born July 5, 1959 in Gnoien ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic. In 1980, she won the Olympic silver medal in the double sculls.

Heidi Westphal won during the 1975 Spartakiade. The SC DHfK Leipzig she formed in 1978 together with the almost same old Cornelia lens a new double sculls and finished in the GDR Championship fifth place. The following year, the two East German championship and then won the title at the World Championships in Bled. At the Olympic Games in 1980 won the two rowers from the USSR Yelena Chlopzewa and Larissa Popova, a little over one second behind rowed Westphal and lens to the silver medal. 1981 changed lens and Westphal in the quadruple sculls. Westphal in 1981 and 1982 respectively vice world champion behind the Soviet sculls with Chlopzewa and Popova.

Heidi Westphal was commercial clerk, and worked at the trade office in Leipzig. After the turn she was at Mass Society. In 1980 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
