Heidwiller

Heidwiller ( German Heidweiler ) is a commune with 610 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Altkirch, Altkirch to Canton and is a member of the Association of Municipalities Secteur d' illfurth.

Geography

The municipality is located in Heidwiller Sundgau, five kilometers north of Altkirch and 15 kilometers south-west of Mulhouse. Through the municipal area runs parallel to Largue running the Rhone-Rhine Canal.

History

In documents from the year 1105, the village appeared under the name of Heytewilare. A first mention dates back to the year 977.

In Heidwiller is a castle, which is first mentioned in documents of the year 1105. 1367, 1412 and 1486 it changed owners families. From the destruction of the building was not spared, and it was reconstructed in the 14th and 16th centuries. 1789 there was a prison built.

A first church in Heidwiller has already been demonstrated for the year 977. After its destruction in 1375, it was rebuilt in 1470. The present church dates from 1768, only the tower of the medieval church remained. For more conversions, there were 1878 ( choir, sacristy cultivation ) and 1901 ( lattice roof on the tower ).
