The market town of Heiligenkreuz am Waasen lies between the Eastern and Southern Styria, about 20 km south of Graz in the district of Leibnitz and has 1927 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the town of Sankt Ulrich am Waasen, the new community will continue to use the name " Heiligenkreuz am Waasen ".

The municipality comprises the cadastral Felgitsch and Heiligenkreuz am Waasen. 1963 Felgitsch was incorporated into the municipality Heiligenkreuz am Waasen.

History

Holy Cross was first mentioned in 1265 in the princely land register Styria. Already in 1271 a separate parish is detectable. In 1849 it came as a result of the revolution of 1848 to the formation of community self- management. In 1984 the church was raised to the market.

Leisure

Many footpaths lead from the village (325 m above sea level) in the wide surroundings of the hills (up to 484 m), from which one far into the eastern and southern Styrian country faces ( Pirchingberg ).

Parish Church

The parish church was built in four phases. Today's eastern side chapel is a late Gothic component and has a capstone that indicates when built in the year 1547. From baroque nave with two yokes and two side chapels from 1684 nothing remains. The master builder Johann Georg Stengg built in 1746 the four-story tower. From 1891 to 1894 was a major renovation of the church in neo-Renaissance style by Robert Mikovics. The old baroque nave was demolished and replaced by one with five bays. In addition, galleries, groin vault and wall piers were built. The einjochige choir has a straight final.

Calvary Church

The Calvary church is dedicated to the Sorrowful Mother. She is one -nave building with a Einturmfassade and was built in 1756 by Johann Georg Stengg. The interior has an almost square ground plan, a flat apse and a curved singer gallery. The altar has a Lamentation with angels of 1762nd Beyond God the Father and a view of Jerusalem are on a fresco angels with the Arma Christi represented. The pulpit and the image of the Immaculate Conception date from the third quarter of the 18th century.
