Geography

Geographical location

The community Heiligkreuzsteinach belongs to the metropolitan Rhine -Neckar and is located in the southern part of the Odenwald in the valley of the Steinach, a right tributary of the Neckar. In the district, which extends in 220-584 meters altitude, open Leuters and Lenz Bach in the Steinach and in the main town of Eiterbach.

The municipality is bordered to the north by the Hessian communities Gorxheimertal, Abtsteinach and forest -Michel Bach, on the east by Heddesbach, to the south by the town of Schönau and Wilhelm field, and on the west by the cities of Schriesheim and Weinheim.

Community structure

The municipality Heiligkreuzsteinach heard the former municipality Lampenhain. The municipality Heiligkreuzsteinach within the frontiers of 31 December 1974 include the place " Hohenöd, development" and the district Eiterbach. History

The villages in the higher elevations of the southern Odenwald did not arise before the 12th century as Waldhufen villages. The first mention of Heiligkreuzsteinach and Bärsbach comes from 1293, followed Eiterbach and Lampenhain 1316. The places were clearing settlements, created by the Lords of Hirschberg Strahlenberg in their rule Waldeck to built by them in the 13th century Burg Waldeck in front Heubach were. Mayor

The mayor is directly elected for eight years. In the 2012 election, Sieglinde post ( CDU) prevailed with 51.1 percent. She took up her post in early 2013.

Coat of arms
