History

The design of the He 74 goes to Walter Günter, the twin brother of the Heinkel design engineer Siegfried Günter, back, of an aerodynamically -quality biplane constructed in 1933 as aerobatic advanced training aircraft for fighter pilot training. At the same time the design was provided in accordance with the air defense plans of the Reichswehr as a so-called Homeland Security hunters, including the low range and only weak armament option was viewed with a MG than adequate.

Other participants of the tender were the Focke -Wulf Fw 56, the Henschel Hs 121 and the Arado Ar 76 Although the flight characteristics were mostly better than those of competitors, were incorporated into the rating that the C -official saw the future in monoplanes. Winner of the tender was the Fw 56 with the 76 Ar as a fallback.

The He 74a served primarily the testing of various airfoils. There were a total of only three made in the dimensions slightly differing prototype and five production aircraft executing Hey 74b. According to another source are from the He 74a and 74b, however, the He that only one copy to be made .

Construction

The He 74 was a einstieliger braced biplane with staggered wings, the lower surface was significantly smaller. The wings had two spars in wood construction and a Sperrholzbeplankung.
