Heinkel Kabine

Heinkel -I from an Irish production

The Heinkel Cabin is a scooter mobile, which was released in 1956 as the first car of Ernst Heinkel AG in Stuttgart- Zuffenhausen. A prototype had already been shown the beginning of 1955.

The tricycle has a fan-cooled single-cylinder four -stroke engine with OHV valve timing and 175 cc capacity, which makes 9.2 hp at 5500 rpm and transmits its power through a four-speed transmission to the single rear wheel. The car has a load-bearing body ( sheet to tube frame ) with front door and standard folding roof. In contrast to the BMW Isetta, the steering column is permanently mounted and does not pivot with the door to the outside. Two adults and two small children have space in the cabin. The front wheels are suspended to swing pushed, the rear wheel is the box of the drive chain as a rocker. All three wheels have coil springs. The hydraulic foot brake only acts on the front wheels, the parking brake mechanically on all wheels.

In addition to the 175 cc model came in the same year a 200 cc model, the Type 154, out. Its chassis has four wheels, the rear track of only 220 mm makes a differential redundant. For some export markets, such as Great Britain or Austria, it was for tax reasons and the large model with three wheels. As of spring 1957, the engine displacement was reduced to 5 cc to get under 200 cm ³.

In 1957, the Type 153 was discontinued after 6438 copies, 1958 and the Type 154 5537 copies. Production and rights were first sold to Ireland to Dundalk Engineering Company, and finally got to the British company Trojan Limited.
