Heinrich Döring

Johann Michael Heinrich Döring ( born May 8, 1789 in Gdansk, † December 14, 1862 in Jena ) was a German writer, translator, theologian and mineralogist.

He was known primarily as a biographer of the German classics, especially as the first biographer of Goethe.

Life

After an aborted business apprenticeship Döring studied from 1814 in Jena theology and philosophy, and soon became active as a writer under the influence of Goethe and others. He became a member of the Society for the entire mineralogy in Jena. According to the editorial work for the Weimar opposition paper 1817, he worked mainly as a translator ( James Fenimore Cooper, William Shakespeare, Walter Scott, Laurence Sterne, and others), literary historian and biographer German writer.

His biographies are based on self- expressions of the people portrayed or on credible evidence. The serial nature, conditional, however, that his works were always superficial and erroneous with time. (Michael Then)
