Heinrich Joseph von Collin

Heinrich Joseph von Collin ( born December 26, 1771 in Vienna, † July 28, 1811 ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

Collin is a doctor's son Heinrich Joseph Collin (1731-1784) and the older brother of the poet Matthew Collin. He studied law and then entered the government service, most recently as Councilor in the state's credit commission. 1804 appeared his drama in five acts Coriolanus. The premiere took place at the Burgtheater in 1802 to Ludwig van Beethoven overture ( Coriolan Overture ) wrote. It premiered on March 5, 1807. Collin joined in his plays the local Baroque to contemporary classical music.

His brother Matthew was 1812-1814 Collins Collected Works in 6 volumes out. In the 14th district of Vienna Penzing the Heinrich Collin Street is named after him since 1901.

After Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had already expressed early negative about Collins Drama Regulus, especially about the lack of vitality of the characters and the static action, he expressed the view that Collins works would not be permanently maintained on the stages of what is still to Goethe lifetime came true.

It rests on the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 0, number 1, number 3) in a grave of honor.
