Heinrich Kayser

Heinrich Gustav Johannes Kayser ( born March 16, 1853 in Bingen, † October 14, 1940 in Bonn ) was a German physicist.

Kayser in 1879 received his doctorate at the University of Berlin with a thesis on the properties of sound waves. He discovered the presence of helium in the atmosphere. Together with Carl Runge, he examined the spectra of chemical elements. From 1894 to 1920 he was a professor at the University of Bonn, where he was the successor of Heinrich Hertz. In Bonn, he established a center for spectroscopic research. In 1905 he wrote a treatise on the theory of electrons.

According to him, the physical unit Kayser was named, but is now obsolete.
