Heinrich Proch

Heinrich Proch ( born July 22, 1809 in Vienna, † December 18, 1878 in Vienna) was an Austrian composer.

Life

Proch studied in Vienna law and trained as a violinist. From 1834 to 1867 he was a member of the Vienna court orchestra. In addition, he was from 1837 to 1840 Kapellmeister of the Theater in der Josefstadt, then thirty years Kapellmeister of the Theater am Kärntnertor the later Court Opera. He also worked as a singing teacher.

Proch composed an opera ( ring and mask ), three operettas, incidental music, orchestral pieces and chamber music as well as over two hundred songs. From his " Theme and Variations " ( Op.164 ) for coloratura soprano, there is a virtuoso recording with Ingeborg Hallstein and the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra under Franz Marszalek. In addition, he also appeared as a translator of Italian operas produced (eg Giuseppe Verdi's Il Trovatore and Gaetano Donizetti's Don Pasquale ). His daughter Louise Proch was known as a singer and actress.

In 1899 in Vienna Penzing ( 14th district ) was named the Prochstraße after him.
