Heinrich Schenck

Johann Heinrich Rudolf Schenck (* 1860 in Siegen, † 1927 in Darmstadt ) was a German botanist and university professor. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Schenck ".

Biography

Schenck studied from 1879 to 1880 Natural Sciences at the University of Bonn from 1881 to 1882 at the University of Berlin. In Berlin, his teacher, August Wilhelm Eichler and especially Simon Schwendenerstrasse were. From 1882 to 1883 he was again in Bonn and was there in 1884 when Eduard Strasburger Dr. phil. doctorate.

1886/1887 he undertook together with Andreas Franz Wilhelm Schimper a research trip to Brazil, where they were among others, Johann Friedrich Theodor Müller in Blumenau. 1889 Schenck lecturer at the University of Bonn in 1896 and received a call to the chair of botany at the Polytechnic University of Darmstadt. At the same time he was appointed director of the Botanical Garden in Darmstadt.

Schenck's research interest was the water plants in which he investigated the histological structure as well as the living conditions especially. He summed up his results in this area together in the first ecological monograph on this group. Next he studied the morphology, histology and ecology of lianas.

He was co-founder and up to the 16th edition of Strasburger co-editor. His brother Adolf has established itself as a geographer, botanist, mineralogist and a name, his daughter Erna, married Erna Walter (1893-1992) was also a botanist.
