Heinrich Schmidt (philosopher)
Heinrich Schmidt ( born December 18, 1874 in Heubach, Thuringia, † May 2, 1935 in Jena ) was a German archivist and philosopher.
Life
Heinrich Schmidt attended from 1890 to 1894, a teacher training college in Hildburghausen and worked as an elementary school teacher. In 1897 he joined the scientific training to Jena. From 1899 he studied under financial support from Ernst Haeckel's Natural Sciences and in 1900 was his private secretary. Since Schmidt lacked a high school, sent him Haeckel to Zurich at his former pupil of Arnold Lang where he 1904 Dr. phil. received his doctorate. From 1912 he was an archivist in Phyletisches archive, from 1916 he headed the Haeckel archive. 1919 he was awarded the title of professor.
According to Haeckel's death Schmidt was the executor; from 1920 until his death he was director of the Ernst- Haeckel - Haus der Friedrich -Schiller- University Jena. As Haeckel was Schmidt Member of the German Monist. From 1919-1920 he was its chairman until his death in 1935, a strong advocate of haeckel between monism and its ideological doctrine of evolution. He was also editor of the " monistic Monatshefte ". After the banning of the magazine in 1933 from politically - content motifs, Schmidt founded the journal "Nature and Spirit, Monatshefte for science, philosophy and world design ."
