Heinz-Gerhard Haupt

Heinz- Gerhard Haupt ( born March 21, 1943 in Göttingen ) is a German historian.

Life

Main studied from 1962 to 1972 History, Political Science and Romance in Göttingen and Paris and at the FU Berlin. He received his doctorate with a thesis on French history in 1972. From 1974 to 1985 he taught as a professor of modern French history at the University of Bremen. From 1985 to 1989 worked as a major historian in Lyon and Paris. From 1989 to 1993 he was Professor of European History at the European University Institute in Florence. 1993 Main was appointed Professor of Modern History at the Martin Luther University in Halle- Wittenberg. In 1998 he was appointed professor of General History, with special emphasis on the social history at the University of Bielefeld. Since 2003, he perceives a professor of European history at the European University Institute in Florence.
