Heinz Richter (cyclist)

Heinz Richter ( born July 24, 1947 in Schlegel ) is a former racing cyclist from East Germany. In 1972, he won an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit.

Life

Richter began as a hockey player in Zittau and joined with 17 years of cycling. After he became third in 1964 and 1965, second in the East German youth championship in the individual road driving, he moved in 1966 to the SC Dynamo Berlin, where he trained with Rolf Nitzsche, which also originally came from Zittau. 1967 Richter won three East German championship: in the time trial over 1000 meters, in the individual pursuit and team pursuit. All titles successfully defended judges in the following year. Heinz Richter was a trained fitter. After his athletic career, he moved from the People's Police to the People's Army, where he was cycling coach, today he runs a bike shop.
