Heinz Simmet

Heinz Simmet ( born November 22, 1944 in Göttelborn (Saarland) ) is a former German football player.

Simmet began playing football at SV Wood and SV Göttelborn. He was a contract player in 1963 with Borussia Neunkirchen and rose with the club in 1964 in the 1st Bundesliga. In the season 1963/64 he played 27 Inserts for Borussia in the Regionalliga in which he scored 10 goals. in the next two years he came to 27 inserts and 14 goals for Borussia in the Bundesliga. After relegation in 1966, he spent one season to the Bundesliga Rot-Weiss Essen to switch a year later the 1st FC Cologne. Here he quickly became known as " water carrier " and " watchdog " of Cologne's midfielder Wolfgang Overath team regular. He remained for many years: Between 1970 and 1977 he was employed in 258 league games in a row - a Bundesliga record for field players. Simmet remained at the 1 FC Cologne until his career end of 1978. This was also his most successful year by winning the German championship and winning the DFB Cup, although he was only 23 events due to injuries.

Heinz Simmet was an uncompromising fighter who was five times with the people of Cologne in the DFB Cup Final and won this twice. In total, he played 419 times in the 1st Bundesliga and scored 55 goals.

Simmet also came to 2 inserts in the German national football team and a B- U -23 international.

In September 2013, the municipality Göttelborn opened a Heinz- Simmet pathway. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary Bundesliga Simmet also was elected in his home region in a "Saarland anniversary Eleven ". The choice was all the Saarland who played in the Bundesliga since 1963.
