Heis is a small crater in the northwest of the moon in front of the plane of the Mare Imbrium, south of the crater C. Herschel and west of the ridge Dorsum home. In the southwest lies the larger crater Delisle. Between this and the Heis Rima Delisle runs north of it lies Rupes Boris, an area of special interest during the Apollo missions. The northern boundary is overlaid by the secondary craters dorsum A.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 by the German astronomer Eduard Heis.
