Heis (Town)

Xiis also written Heis or shark, is a place in the Sanaag region in northern Somalia. It lies on the coast of the Gulf of Aden and has, according to the latest calculations about 1400 inhabitants.

The place is supposed to be identical with the ancient trading port Mundu, is described in the Periplus Maris Erythraei, the book by an anonymous Alexandrian traveling salesman from the 1st century AD detail. In Xiis were pottery and fragments of glass fragments from Rome from the 1st - 5th Century found.

To the east of the city, in front of the coast, is a small island, called Xiis Iceland.
