History

1155 the village was first mentioned.

The name of the place was probably due to the location between Mansfeld and Eisleben. At the point you had made half the distance and also the increase of Eisleben by the thieves chamber. It was his goal so half ran, in Mansfeld dialect " helb ra". So the place name, the place itself is called today in Mansfeld dialect " Helwer " was born.

Helbras history of the last 150 years has been very much influenced by industrialization ( iron and steel works, copper mining, mine train). Of which today is hardly anything to see; only connoisseurs of history can explain the traces. The regional literature on this subject is revealing. After completion and shift towards Sangerhausen the industry is rapidly declining. The largest operation was the August- Bebel- hut, the largest and last Kupferrohhütte the GDR ( probably Germany ). Here the ore was the Mansfeld shafts, which usually contained just 1.5% copper, processed in copper matte ( 60% copper). This was then further processed in Hettstedt (former copper-silver hut) to pure copper. With the changes in 1990, the hut was closed. A landmark of Helbra, the Lange Heinrich ( of about 90 m high chimney), was also blown up.

Between Eisleben and Hettstedt was until 1922 a tram line, the so-called union web. The flat connection on the base villages allowed this route. For reasons of high maintenance costs, this compound was discontinued in 1922. Today only the railway embankments between Ziegelrode and Helbra and between Helbra and Klostermansfeld ( Sommerweg ) remember this tram route. The only preserved bridge is preserved in the area of Neptune bath in Helbra ( passage to the gas station).
