Hélder Vieira Dias

Manuel Hélder Vieira Dias Junior, called Kopelipa, is an Angolan politician and former general of the Angolan army.

Politicians and public office

Kopelipa was formerly among other heads of various intelligence agencies and is today among other offices chief of the presidential guard and so Chefe da Casa Militar do Presidente da República de Angola. Kopelipa is a member of the ruling party MPLA and is considered a close confidant of the Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos.

On 24 February 2006, he was temporarily successor to General Fernando Miala, head of the foreign intelligence service and former business partner Kopelipas, named after reports of a subversion of the Government emerged through Miala.

Hélder Vieira Dias is since October 22, 2004 Director of the " Office for National Recovery " ( Gabinete de Reconstrução Nacional, GRN). The GRN reports directly to the Office of the President and is responsible for managing the loans from China. The loans are secured by the oil production in Angola and have contracts to Chinese companies result, which would appear to awarding these loans as doubtful.

Private citizen

Kopelipa built during the 27-year civil war in Angola, together with General Fernando Miala over the common company " Simportex " by a supply monopoly of the Angolan army with uniforms and a fortune on food.

As a private person Vieira Dias operates various investments in Angola. He controls the Media Nova group that wants to build with "TV Zimbo " the first Angolan private channels. With various investment of around 10 billion U.S. dollars, he also maintains business ties with the former colonial power Portugal. So he founded with Filipe Barreiros Cardoso Vilaça the active inter alia in tourism company " Vieira Dias & Barreiros Cardoso ".
