Helena of Serbia, Queen of Hungary

Helen of Serbia ( Serbian: Jelena, Hungarian Ilona, * 1109, † 1146 ) was Queen of Hungary.

Helena was the daughter of the Serbian prince Uroš I and his wife Anna, a niece of the Byzantine emperor Alexios I was born. On April 28, 1127 she married at the age of 16 years later the Hungarian King Béla II of the House of Árpád. The couple had six children, with three sons followed their father as kings of Hungary. Since Béla was blind, he had to rely completely on his surroundings and his counselors in his exercise of power. Even Queen Helena played a crucial role here. Béla died in 1141, Queen Helena survived him by five years and was buried by his side in the St. Stephen's Basilica of Székesfehérvár.
