Helene Ahrweiler

Hélène Ahrweiler, born Glykatzi (Greek Ελένη Γλύκατζη - Αρβελέρ; born August 29, 1926 in Athens ) is a Byzantinistin and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Greece.

Life

Ahrweiler was the daughter of refugees from Asia Minor in Athens. She attended the University of Athens in 1953 and moved to Paris, where they married in 1958 Jacques Ahrweiler. From 1976 to 1981 she was president of the University of Paris I and 1989-1991 Director of the Centre Georges Pompidou.
