Helene Thurner

Helene " Leni " Thurner - Bullock ( born August 12, 1938 in Zams ) is a former Austrian luger.

Leni Thurner originally started for the toboggan club Schönwies and later for the toboggan club Imst. In 1957 she took first in the traditional Tyrolean championships and finished fifth, one year later, she won the event for the first time. At a luge World Cup took Thurner in 1959 in Villard -de- Lans part and was a victory Elly Lieber's Fifth. In 1960, she was Austrian in Weissbach, near Liezenerstmals national champion. At the World Championships 1960 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen in fourth place when she missed a first international medal only just, which they won in Girenbad at the Luge World Cup in 1961, she won the bronze medal behind Elisabeth Nagele and Marianne Winkler. So she was the first Austrian who won an Olympic luge medal. 1965 was followed by the re- winning the Austrian Championship and winning the Tyrolean championship. The 1965 World Cup in Davos, she finished in fifth place finisher after it was in the lead after the second run. The last international medal winning Thurner with bronze behind Enderlein and Petra Tierlich at the World Championships 1967 in Hammarstrand. In 1968, she started again at the Olympics, finishing ninth. In addition, it was established in 1968 for the seventh time Austrian champion. Six times she won the Tyrolean championship. In 1967, Thurner co-founder of sports club and Mils to 2000 where he worked as Head of Section. From 1992 to 2004 she served as Deputy Mayor of the municipality Mils bei Imst and 2000 was Dorfchronistin of the place. Thurner 1996 was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria, in 2007 with the Order of Merit of the State of Tyrol. Since 2008 she is an honorary citizen of their home town Mils.
