Helga Lindner ( born May 5, 1951 in Chemnitz) is a former swimmer who competed for East Germany.

Career

Lindner's international career began at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, where it is only a tenth of a second missed the Olympic gold medal over 200 meters butterfly and the Dutch Ada Kok had to leave. In the final of the 100 meters butterfly decision finally was eighth.

In the European Swimming Championships 1970 in Barcelona they could win their only two international title when she was in each European champion over 200 meters butterfly and the 4 × 100 meter medley relay in the GDR. Also over 100 meters butterfly, she won the silver medal.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich Lindner stepped again on the 200 meter butterfly stretch, but could not repeat the silver medal of Mexico City and was finally sixth.

Trivia

Helga Lindner is the cousin of the swimmer Renate Vogel, who was 1973 World Champion in the 100 meters and 200 meters breaststroke.
