Heli-Logging

As Heli- Logging ( German: Helicopter harvesting ) refers to the removal of logs from a forest to a meeting place by helicopter. The process is especially in hard to reach areas, such as in the mountains, are used. Here, the log is moved hanging on a long cable below the helicopter.

There are two different approaches. In traditional heli- logging, the wood is first beaten and prepared for transport before the helicopter arrives. This is then only still responsible for transport. The so-called standing -Stem process of standing tree is first freed by climbers of tree branches and then sawed at the base so that it just remains still stand. The helicopter then flies to the tree, attacks him with a gripper known as grapple, tears or bends him off and fly the stem directly from the forest.

An advantage of this method is that no access roads are needed, as well as conservation of the soil and surrounding trees. A disadvantage is its dependence on the weather and the high fuel consumption of the helicopter turns.
