Description

Hellboy is not a classic superhero in the narrower sense, such as Superman, because his stories are more associated with the fantasy - horror genre. Actually, he is a red-skinned devil summoned by the Russian mystic Rasputin on behalf of the Nazis, but he was raised on Earth by his foster father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and fights evil now. The name Hellboy gave him the American soldiers who found him. In the films, he is, however, often only Red (german red) called, a reference to his skin color. His real name is Anung Un Rama, which translates to mean: The Beast of the Apocalypse. This is hinted that Hellboy was sent as prophesied in the Bible Antichrist in the world. He rejects this role from but. With his superhuman abilities, which mainly superhuman physical strength, endurance, recovery and physical resistance are, instead he fights demons and other occult creatures. In the films, he is also, unlike the comic, fireproof.

In several short stories but also mini-series Mignola told the adventures of Hellboy. The artist refers to the character as " plumber under the superhero ". He sees it not as a classic hero, but as someone who makes his work easy. Only that these flat consists of fighting the monsters, vampires and Nazis. 2012 was Mignola Hellboy in the band The Storm and the Fury (German: Hellboy: The Storm ) die in battle against an apocalyptic dragon.

Development

Over time, Mignola created an increasingly complex universe of other figures. So Hellboy was a long time member of the Authority for investigation and defense of paranormal phenomena, short BPRD ( in the original BPRD - Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense). Other members include Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien. Also recurring opponent as his summoner Rasputin and his mother Baba Yaga extended the cosmos.

2004 Comics with Ron Perlman were filmed in the role of Hellboy by Guillermo del Toro. The film is largely based on the first miniseries Seed of Destruction.

As is common in the U.S. comics scene, Hellboy course had crossover with other well-known characters, such as Batman, Starman, Painkiller Jane and Ghost, Savage Dragon and Madman.

On 24 June 2008 appeared on the North American market, the Action game Hellboy: The Science of Evil for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable. It was developed by Krome Studios and distributed by Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc..
