Hellenic Shipyards Co.

Hellenic Shipyards (Greek Ελληνικά Ναυπηγεία Σκαραμαγκά ) is a shipyard in Skaramagas at Athens in Greece. In the largest shipyard in the eastern Mediterranean and railcars for railroads are manufactured alongside ships and submarines in cooperation with Bombardier Transportation and Siemens.

History

Occupied the site of today's dockyard from 1939 a small shipyard, the ships of war made ​​for the Hellenic Navy. 1952 acquired the shipowner Stavros Niarchos tycoon the area and founded the Hellenic Shipyards. More than 9,000 ships were repaired or built, including 170 for the U.S. Navy. From the 1980s also saw the start of production of rail vehicles. In January 2008, the company Hochtief first received a contract to produce a drilling platform. In March 2010 it was announced that Abu Dhabi MAR acquires 75 % stake in Hellenic Shipyards of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems; 24.9 percent remain with ThyssenKrupp.

Still, there is a contract under which the military section of the yard can be active only for the Greek Navy, the shipyard negotiated but to resolve this exclusive contract.

Capacity

The Shipyard is the largest shipyard in Greece and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. 18 ships can be processed simultaneously.
