Hellingen

Slipways is a municipality in Heldburger land in the district of Hildburghausen in Frankish dominated the south of Thuringia. It is the southernmost municipality in the state.

Geography

The municipality belongs to the administrative community to Heldburger lowlands. The administrative headquarters are in the town of Bad Colberg- Heldburg. Districts are slipways, Rieth, Albingshausen, Kässlitz, Poppenhausen and Volkmann Hausen.

Neighboring communities

The municipality borders the city of Bad Colberg- Heldburg and to the communities Schweickershausen and Gompertshausen in Thuringia, Trappstadt, Sulzdorf at the Lederhecke and Maroldsweisach in Lower Franconia and the town Sesslach in Upper Franconia.

History

Slipways is the second oldest settlement of Heldburger lowlands; it was first mentioned in 784.

From 1151 the wealthy gentlemen of slipways are known. They stood in the service of the lords of Henneberg. Where they resided, is not known. Later, the men are called by Schott, the four towers and four -wing moated castle built in 1515 in the west of the town and it tags the end of the 17th and 18th centuries into a castle. In the 19th century it broke off parts of the system. Conserves the need of repair eastern and southern wings. The former fortified cemetery is located south of the town.

Slipways 1672-1693 was affected by witch hunts. A woman and a man were caught in a witch trial.
