Helmut Eder

Helmut Eder ( born December 26, 1916 in Linz, † February 8, 2005 in Salzburg) was an Austrian composer.

Life

Eder studied with Carl Orff and was influenced by Alban Berg, Johann Nepomuk David and György Ligeti. He composed more than 130 works ranging from chamber music, sacred music to opera. They were among them Seiji Ozawa and Wolfgang Sawallisch, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of prominent conductors. At the Salzburg Festival in 1991 Eder Mozart opera was premiered in New York. Helmut Eder was awarded the State Prize for Music (1962 ) and the Anton Bruckner price. After his death, he was buried at the Salzburg municipal cemetery.
