Helmut Janz

Helmut Janz (* April 11, 1934 in Gladbeck, † November 8, 2000 in New Ulm- Poole ) was a German athlete.

The Olympian was - starting for the Federal Republic - End of 1950er/Anfang 1960s successfully in the 400 - meter hurdles. He was seven times in a row, German champion in this discipline ( 1957-1963 ). At the European Championships 1962, he won the bronze medal in 50.3 s. At the European Championships in 1958, he left in the intermediate run.

At the Olympics 1960 he reached number four and made it a European record when he was in Rome 49.9 s ran on September 2, 1960.

Helmut Janz, who lived in New Ulm- puddle with his wife Marga, a member of the sports club VfL Gladbeck. In its competition time, he was 1.78 m tall and weighed 67 kg. In 1963 he was awarded the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award. In 1994 he retired from professional life, when he retired, but was then still active as athletics trainers and youth football coach. He also put an advanced age annually from the Sport badge.
