The Helong are a people on the Indonesian island Semau and at the extreme western tip of the island of Timor, where they live close by Tenau in four villages and scattered into the region Amarasi. The population consists of about 15,000 to 20,000 people, of which 14,000 still speak their own language Helong. The Helong originally populated the entire region around today's provincial capital Kupang, but were ousted by the Atoin Meto.

Language

We distinguish dialects as the island Helong ( Helong Pulau ) and Timor Helong Darat ( Bolok ) and Funai (land Helong ).
