Geography

Helpfau - Uttendorf is located at 419 m altitude in Innviertel. The expansion is 6.1 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 7.9 km. The total area is 26.5 km ². 25.7 % of the area is forested, 62.6 % of the area is used for agriculture.

Official description of the municipality coat of arms: Azure, on a golden Dreienberg a silver, three sides pointing, hexagonal tower, the ground floor with five battlements and a black open arched gate with gold, whipped door leaves; gequaderte the floor with three towers and two black open windows. The municipality colors are blue and yellow.

History

Even in the Stone Age, about 7,000 years ago, the Mattigtal was settled. Accordingly, many historic discoveries were made. The most famous is the golden choker from a princely grave mound. It is a grave side dish from the Hallstatt period. The choker was salvaged in 1885 on behalf of the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum and can be visited today in Linz. Unfortunately, many of these finds also fell prey to looters. A few decades ago remains were still visible from the Roman streets in the district Lohnau.

In the year 789 Helpfau was first mentioned as " Helpfo " documentary. The first mention of Uttendorf dates from the year 1120. The market rights in 1481 awarded. Until 1780 the town was Bavarian and came to the Peace of Teschen with the Innviertel (then Innbaiern ) to Austria.

  • Churches:

Altogether there are in Helpfau - Uttendorf four churches. The most famous is the former castle chapel above the Calvary in the center of Uttendorf. It is the only remaining piece of a castle, which had been located at Calvary and the emblem of the municipality. Also worth seeing is the Gothic in origin pilgrimage church of St. Florian ( 1885 steeple expansion by Raimund Jeblinger ). Front of the building there is a military cemetery of the 6th Army Stalingrad WW2.

  • Country Princely Castle Uttendorf: The Prince's Castle Uttendorf was a castle that had once been at Calvary above the market. In the 18th century it was demolished because of the ailing state. The stones were then used for the construction of the St. Joseph Hospital in Braunau am Inn. The only surviving part of the castle is the former chapel on the castle hill. Today, it is the landmark Uttendorfs. The land on which the building was found is forested today. It can still be seen a few remnants of the foundation walls. The Prince's Castle Uttendorf is anchored in the municipal coat of arms.
  • Marketplace: The marketplace is the historic core of Uttendorf. Here are inns, cafes, retail, banks and administrative facilities. 1835, the market was completely destroyed by a devastating fire to three buildings. Until 1841 this was rebuilt in its present form again.
  • Mattigtaler hedge maze of human rights ( MHM ): On private initiative in the village of Empire Village since 2005 starting from an orchard with the planting of a hedge maze started. With a diameter of 64m and a tail length of approximately 1,000 meters of it is the largest hedge maze in Austria and at the latest from 2014 are available to the public.
