Helsinki City Transport

Helsingin Kaupungin liikennelaitos (or Helsingfors stads trafikverk; Finnish and Swedish for "Operations of the City of Helsinki ," official abbreviation HKL / HST ) is the name of the transport companies of the city of Helsinki. They are owned by the City. Since early 2010, HKL is part of the newly established Regional Association Helsingin Seudun liikenne ( HSL), which is now responsible for the planning and coordination of public transport in the Helsinki region. HKL has since then acted only as operator of the Metro Helsinki, Helsinki and the tram ( through a subsidiary ) of the ferry to the island of Suomenlinna. The city bus service in Helsinki was spun off in 2005.

History

Helsingin Raitiotie yes omnibus Osakeyhtioe served - From 1890 to 1944, the public transport in Helsinki by the Company Spårvägs -och omnibus Aktiebolaget i Helsingfors. The city bought the majority of shares of the Company 1913. 1944 was the conversion of the corporation into an urban operation.

From 1949 to 1974, 1979 to 1985 HKL was also the operator of the trolley bus lines from Helsinki.

In December 2004, the bus department Bussiliikenne HVAC ( " HVAC bus " ) with the also fully owned by the town company Suomen Turistiauto Oy ( " Finnish coach Company Ltd " ) was merged. The name of the new, independent bus company is since January 2005 Helsingin Bussiliikenne Oy ( " bus Helsinki AG").

The ferry to Suomenlinna is performed by the HVAC subsidiary Suomenlinnan Liikenne Oy.

Since 1 January 2010, HKL is part of the Regional Council of Helsingin Seudun liikenne ( HSL).
