Helsinki-päivä

At Helsinki päivä (Eng. Helsinki - day), which takes place annually on 12 June, the Finnish capital Helsinki celebrates its establishment. On this date was Sweden's former King Gustav I Vasa founded the city in 1550 under its Swedish name Helsingfors.

The city birthday is celebrated since 1959 and is an initiative of the then Mayor of Helsinki, Lauri Aho, including the Chairman of the Helsinki Company, Jorma Waronen back. Traditional drinks of the Lord Mayor at the opening of the Helsinki tags for a coffee in the courtyard of City Hall.
