Helton da Silva Arruda Helton called, ( born May 18, 1978 in São Gonçalo ) is a Brazilian football goalkeeper.

Career

In the club

Youth (up to 1999)

Before Helton joined the youth team of CR Vasco da Gama, he first tried his luck in the city rivals Fluminense FC and CR Flamengo, where he convinced each sample in the training. A change, however, did not take place. On the one hand, to participate due to financial difficulties on the part Heltons on training and on the other, because he, after he fell from a Jambulbaum, hemostasis drew upon the head, and had to take a year off. After Auskurierung the injury, he joined the youth team São Cristóvão. When he played with his new club against the youth team Vasco da Gama, the leaders of Vasco were noticed him and invited him to trial.

CR Vasco da Gama ( 2000-2002 )

Heltons professional career began at CR Vasco da Gama, when the club with his goalkeeper Carlos Germano 2000 could not agree on a contract extension just before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup. The coaching staff put him directly as a goalkeeper and after a few friendlies he was also employed at the Club World Cup. However, in the final he defeated Vasco da Gama against SC Corinthians. In the same year won the Brazilian championship Helton and the Copa Mercosur.

União Leiria (2002 to 2005)

In 2002 his contract expired at Vasco da Gama, and like his predecessor a contract extension was not achieved. Although Helton subsequently received some offers from other Brazilian clubs, he opted for a move to Europe and signed with the Portuguese club União Leiria. In Leiria he played three seasons. In his first season he finished the championship in fifth place. This was a qualifying berth for the UEFA Cup in 2003/ 04, where, however, he resigned with the club already in the first round against Molde FK. In the next two season in Leiria, he finished the championship in 10th and 14th place. At the end of the season 2004/2005 he moved to FC Porto.

FC Porto ( since 2005)

At FC Porto, he was initially the number two behind Vítor Baía. Goalkeeper Coach Wil Coort put him in the season 2005/ 06 to the position of number one. With strong performances Helton been able to establish the respect of fans and the coaching staff and became the first-choice goalkeeper, before the popular Vítor Baía. This season he has been with the team for the first time champion and won the cup. In the following three season again was Portuguese champion.

In the 2010/11 season he reached with FC Porto UEFA Europa League Final. The finale was held on 18 May 2011, at his 33rd birthday, which was won 1-0 against SC Braga in the first all- Portuguese final.

On November 30, 2013 Helton completed his 200th league appearance for FC Porto.

In the National Team

Helton was a member of the Brazilian national team at the Junior World Cup in 1997 and the Summer Olympics in 2000. Sidney, he played in all four games, to Brazil was eliminated in the quarter- final against Cameroon.

On 15 November 2006 he stood for the first time in goal for the senior team in a friendly against Switzerland. In 2007 he took part in the Copa América in part, to have denied without a game, as he was by Doni only second choice.

Samba music and play an important role for Helton. He plays several instruments, including the cavaquinho, guitar, and some percussion instruments.
