The Helwan HA -300 was an Egyptian supersonic fighter aircraft from the 1960s.

History

Beginning of the sixties bought the aircraft manufacturer Helwan Aircraft, the 1962 part of the Egyptian General Aero Organisation, the Spanish aircraft manufacturer Hispano Aviación the construction documents for the construction of a multipurpose supersonic fighter aircraft with delta wings in a lightweight construction. With these documents, and the results from the testing of the tool glide Hispano HA- 23P also employees of Willy Messerschmitt, who had designed the pattern came into the country, to build together with an Egyptian team fighter plane. 1963 saw the construction of the first prototype, which had been adapted to the environmental conditions in Egypt and had heard so significantly different from the original design. Originally, the use of a UK - Bristol Orpheus -12 engine for the series was provided. After it became clear that this engine should not be further developed, the Austrian engine designer Ferdinand Brandner began developing its own jet engine E -300 with 800 kg Mounting mass headed. However, this engine was not available in time, so that the first prototype was equipped with V1 its first flight on 7 March 1964, the Indian pilots Kapil Bhargava still with a Bristol Orpheus 703 engine ( 2100 kgf ). This first flight lasted 12.5 minutes. The second prototype was a Orpheus engine. Difficulties with the thin delta wings, the fuel supply, and many other small technical problems delayed the project continues.

After extensive tests on a An-12 in Egypt as well as to an Indian HF -24 Marut, the E -300 engine was finally ready and should start with the third prototype V-3 testing. However, this and also the finished V-4 never flew because again einstellten engine problems.

After the Indian side had become clear that Egypt was not interested in buying the RF -24, but only on a joint engine development, the Indian support for the E-300 has been discontinued. Therefore, the Egyptian government made in May 1969, the entire HA -300 finally a project, especially from the Soviet Union existed favorable offers to buy already proven and deployable military technology.
