Hematology

Hematology ( from Ancient Greek αἷμα haima "blood" and λόγος logos " doctrine " ) is the study of the physiology, pathophysiology and diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs. It comprises of the blood, forming disorders of the bone marrow, blood changes malignancies by immunological processes, disorders of hemostasis (haemorrhagic diathesis, hemophilia) and Übergerinnbarkeit of the blood ( thrombophilia ). The latter two disease groups subsumed under the technical term Hemostasis (study of blood coagulation ).

The main blood diseases are both acute and chronic leukemia (blood cancer ), malignant changes in the lymph nodes ( colloquially " lymphoma " ), anemia (anemia ) and hemophilia ( hemophilia ).

Most diseases of the blood can be diagnosed from the blood itself, but in some cases a bone marrow biopsy should be performed or taken out and examined a lymph node.
