Hemberg

Hemberg is a municipality in the canton of St. Gallen. It is located in the constituency of Toggenburg. To Hemberg Bächli and Halden heard.

Geography

The village is situated on a hilltop. The neighboring municipalities are Necker, Wattwil, Ebnat- Kappel, Nesslau -Krummenau, Urnäsch and Schöngrund.

Population

Through a muslin weaving and embroidery, the population grew strongly in the 18th and early 19th century. After 1850, due to the economic situation worsened, a trend apparent and the population began to decline sharply. During the past 50 years she has remained constant at about 1000th of 2010, 942 inhabitants counted.

Economy

Hemberg has two ski lifts and cross-country skiing. Since the end of the 19th century Hemberg is a height and health resort.

1989 bought Jörg tile man, meteorologist an old farmhouse in Bächli, it built to a high-tech weather station and founded the private weather service Meteo Media AG. The Hemberger village was known as Switzerland's. The Meteo Media AG's intention to expand the activities and to build a national and European Meteo station with numerous new jobs in Bächli. Due to differences with the political community, however, this project could not be realized. The Meteo Media AG therefore moved its headquarters to Gais.

It is known to Hill Climb race St.Peterzell - Hemberg, which was fought from 1968 to 1990. On 23 September 2012 after more than 20 years back a car races.
