Hemilepidotus hemilepidotus
Hemilepidotus is a genus of fish from the family of sculpins ( Cottidae ). The species of the genus occur in the northern Pacific coastal Hokkaido (Japan) on the Sea of Okhotsk, Kamchatka, the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands to southern California before. They live from the intertidal zone to depths of about 600 meters. In English the fish " Irish Lords " are mentioned.
Features
Hemilepidotus species are stocky built, large-headed fish that can reach a length of 26 to 51 cm. The separated in the other genera stachelstrahligen Gropp and soft-rayed dorsal fins are grown together in Hemilepidotus. The spiny part of the dorsal fin rises between the third and fourth, sometimes between the fourth and fifth sting of step-like. The scales on the fish consist of a broad, multi-row shed tape on both sides of the dorsal fin, as well as a wide zone scales below the lateral line. The spikes in the Vorkiemendeckels are simple, with only one peak.
