Hemingway Foundation PEN Award

The Hemingway Foundation PEN Award is awarded annually for a novel or a volume of short stories of an American author who has previously published no fiction. The literary prize is named after Ernest Hemingway, and is financially endowed by Ernest Hemingway Foundation.

Structures

Operationally responsible for the organization of the literary prize are the Hemingway Society ( since 1987) and the New England PEN. The Mary Hemingway widow, member of PEN was founded the prize in 1976 in memory of her husband and reward for outstanding prose debut works of fiction.

The winners will be selected in each case by a changing jury of three well-known writers. He will receive a prize of 8,000 U.S. dollars. Together with the winner will receive two finalists and two runner-up a residency fellowship from the Ucross Residency Fellowship from the Ucross Foundation. This house artist for artists and writers is a ranch with 89 km ² of land in Ucross, Wyoming. The award ceremony takes place regularly in the building of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library in Boston, Massachusetts instead.
