Hemshof

The Hemshof is the oldest district of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. Together with the districts of North and West, he is the local District Northern City.

Before founding city of Ludwigshafen 1853 was the " Hembshof ," as he was called up to the 19th century, a farm in the district of Friesland home. Also at today's district were the Ganderhof, the tube Lacher yard and the Graefe Hof three more farms. As a district he was born and has 1870-1910. First, a pure residential area for workers, which was founded in 1865 BASF, the Hemshof has developed since the 1960s, with its now just under 16,700 inhabitants and a foreign population of 43.8 % (2005) gradually became the preferred center for immigrants of different nationalities. 40 % of migrants come from Turkey. Some of them have acquired house property when the city buildings sold cheap in the past ten years, under the support of the renovation.

The combination of German Old Town and various foreign cultures make the Hemshof to a special district of Ludwigshafen.

Hemshof Friedel

A city known original was the Hemshof Friedel, an entertainment singer of the coarser variety that was stranded in Ludwigshafen.

Hemshof Indians

The director Hermann Basel turned in 1919, first in Heidelberg and from 1920 in Ludwigshafen, Germany's first Western. He himself played the leading role the hero " Bull Arizona ". As extras during filming in Maudacher break he pulled up members of the club athletes in Hemshof that had to represent trappers and Indians. Hence the nickname " Hemshof Indians " comes. Horses were provided by a shipping company available.

Hemshof Theatre

In Hemshof there are two theaters with their own venue: The Prince Regent Theatre (formerly Theatre in Hemshof ) and the Hemshofschachtel. Both are privately run theater, which list mostly pieces in local dialect.

William Dieterle

In the later director William Dieterle Hemshof 1903 was born the son of the baker Jacob Dieterle. With the rise of the social family of working-class neighborhood Hemshof moved into the more rural Mundenheim.
