Henderson County (North Carolina)

Henderson County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hendersonville.

Geography

The County is located in western North Carolina, on the south by South Carolina and has an area of 971 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Buncombe County, Rutherford County, Polk County and Transylvania County.

Henderson County is divided into eight townships: Blue Ridge, Clear Creek, Crab Creek, Edneyville, Green River, Hendersonville, Hoopers Creek and Mills River.

History

Henderson County was formed in 1838 from parts of Buncombe County. It was named, as is the district capital of Henderson, according to Leonard Henderson, a presiding judge of the Supreme Court ( Supreme Court ) of North Carolina.
