Hendschiken (Swiss German: Haen ː tʃikχə ) is a municipality in the district of Lenzburg in the canton of Aargau. It is located in the lower Bünztal, two kilometers east of the district municipal seat.

Geography

The village is about two hundred meters west of the Bünz in a flat plane, which had been largely mired in early times and was drained in the early 20th century. On the western boundary of the municipality, the Lütisbuech (538 m above sea level. M. ) and the Rain ( 519 m above sea level. M. ), two spurs of the Riet mountain that forms the natural border of the valley rise. Apart from the actual village there are three districts, which have a completely different like character. To the west, at the junction of the terminal moraine of Rain Othmarsingen, lies the industrial area Horner. Buel is a rural hamlet embossed on a plateau on the eastern slope of the Lütisbuech. Steinacker on the eastern shore of the Bünz is a modern residential estate.

The area of the municipality is 352 hectares, of which 86 hectares are forested and built over 62 hectares. The highest point is 535 meters far from the peak of the Lütisbuech, the deepest at 398 meters at the Bünz.

Neighboring municipalities are Othmarsingen in the north, Dottikon in the east, Villmergen the southeast, and Dintikon BANGALORE in the south and in the west of Lenzburg.

History

1921 and 1933, the remains of a Roman aqueduct have been discovered that supplied the Vicus at Lenzburg with water. The first mention of Hentschikon took place in 1160 in the Acta Murensia the monastery Muri. The village name comes from the Old High German " Hanzinghofun " and means " in the courts of the clan of Hanzo ".

In the Middle Ages the land was fragmented and belonged numerous ecclesiastical and secular lords, including the monasteries Muri, Säckingen and St. Urban, and the Lords of Hallwyl, the Counts of Lenzburg and the Counts of Habsburg. Large parts of it were in the 14th century to the Habsburg family monastery Königsfelden. The Habsburgs were given in 1264 by the Counts of Kyburg high justice, while the lower courts for more than five hundred years went to the Hallwyler. Ecclesiastical Hendschiken belonged to the parish Staufberg on the homonymous hill.

1415 conquered the Swiss Aargau; Hendschiken now belonged to the subject territory of Berne, the so-called Bernese Aargau.
