Hen south of Oberhenneborn

The hen is a 22.5 km long, orographic left tributary of the Ruhr in North Rhine- Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis, Germany.

Geography

The hen rises in Fredeburger forest on the northeast flank of Mount Kahlenberg ( 712.6 m) at an altitude of 660 m above sea level. NN. From here the hen flows primarily in northern directions. Here it flows through the villages Oberhenneborn, Niederhenneborn, Landenbeck, Herhagen and Nichtinghausen before it reaches the dam named after her hen. Below the dam the hen reaches the core city of Meschede where it discharges to 259 m above sea level. NN on the left into the Ruhr.

The hen overcomes on her 22.5km route an altitude difference of 401 m, corresponding to an average bed slope of 17.8 ‰. It drains a 96.968 km ² large catchment area over the Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea

Tributaries

The most important tributary of the hen is just over 15 km long Little hen, which flows below the dam hen in the hen. It contributes with a 39.832 km ² large catchment area to 41% to that of the hen. Another significant tributary is the 8.3 km long Rarbach.
