Hennie Stamsnijder

Hendrikus " Hennie " Johannes Maria Stamsnijder ( born July 21, 1954 in Enter) is a former Dutch cyclist and World Champion.

Hennie Stamsnijder was an all-rounder, the race on the road and on the track went, but most successful in cross-country races ( Cyclocross ) was. In 1975, he became a military world champion in cyclo-cross races. In 1977 he was third in the Dutch Championship in tandem race, together with Gerrie Slot, 1978 national runner-up in the points race. In 1979 he became Dutch amateur champion in the road race. Then he stepped over to the pros and won the title of vice - world champion in cyclo-cross. The following year he was third in the World Championship in Cyclocross, but started well in the Tour de France.

1981 Stamsnijder was the first Dutch cyclo-cross world champion and started a second and last time in the tour. In 1982, he finished in the cyclo-cross World Cup third in 1984 and 1986 again the second to third place. He won numerous other victories in cyclo-cross races and in 1983 he was again the Dutch vice-champion in the points race. Four times he won the race series Super Prestige Cyclocross. In 1989 he retired from active cycling.

In the year of his world championship victory in 1981, was Hennie Stamsnijder " Sportsman of the Year " in the Netherlands. After his retirement he worked as a Dutch national coach of the cross country team. He then worked for the company Shimano. He is the father of cyclist Tom Stamsnijder.
