Henning Voscherau

Henning Voscherau [ fɔʃəʁaʊ̯ ] ( born August 13, 1941 in Hamburg ) is a German lawyer and former notary. He is a politician of the SPD, gas lobbyist and was from 1988 to 1997 First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

Family

He is the son of actor Carl Voscherau, the nephew of popular actor Walter Scherau (actually Walter Voscherau ) and brother of Eggert Voscherau. Since 1971 Voscherau is married to his wife Anne Rose; a pharmacist. The couple has a son and two daughters.

Career

Voscherau studied after graduating from high school Oberalster Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg. In 1969 he completes his studies with his doctorate. From 1974 ( with an interruption from 1988 to 1997 ) to 2011, he worked in Hamburg as a notary. Since 2011 he leads with his son, the lawyer Carl-Christian Voscherau, a shared office.

Political career

Voscherau describes himself as " born social ", including his parents and his grandfather in the SPD. He enters the SPD in 1966. His political career began in 1970 with the election to the District Assembly Wandsbek, where he remained until 1974, when he was elected to the Hamburg Parliament. Since 1981 he was a member of the national executive of the SPD in Hamburg. In 1982 he became leader of the SPD and remained in this position until 1987, before he was elected on June 8, 1988 as the successor of Klaus von Dohnanyi as First Mayor of Hamburg. From November 1 1990 to October 31, 1991 Voscherau was President of the Bundesrat. He then retired from active politics, but remained a member of the SPD Federal Executive until 2001.
