Hennstedt (Steinburg)

Hennstedt is a municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein. The municipality consists of the villages Seelust and Cameroon.

Geography and transport

Hennstedt is located about 10 km north of Kellinghusenstraße in Akrug Nature Park. Bull creek, Kirchweddelbach and Aubek flow through the community. Near the village is the Itzespitze, the highest elevation in the district of Steinburg. The state roads 121 and 123 intersect in Hennstedt.

History

The first written mention of the place was as possession of Rotmar of Henstide in the year 1148.

The neo-Gothic Christ Church was built in 1907 to plans by the Hamburg architect Hugo Groot Hoff.

In Hennstedt is as far back visible landmark is a 170 meter high telecommunications tower ( tower type FMT 2). Previously, he served as a primary network station for RTL and Sat.1 the analogue terrestrial reception system. Today, no more radio signals are emitted from here. The telecommunications tower is now used for the distribution of radio links, and a mobile radio transmitter.
